On Sunday, July 26, 2009, the San Mateo Fire Fighters’ Association took part in the annual San Mateo Festa Italiana to benefit PARCA by cooking sausages and hotdogs. It was a perfect day with sunny but mild weather that resulted in a very large turnout of citizens.
Fire Chief Dan Belville and Jeff Barile drove SMFFA’s 1921 Seagrave in the Festa’s kick off parade. The SMFD explorers, Tim Haggardy, Eric Yousef, Kathleen Curd, and James Bowie “baby sat” her while giving out information about SMFD and fire helmets to the kids. Thanks to Robert Cook for organizing them to help us out. (Robert ran the CERT’s annual appreciation BBQ with Bill Euchner at Beresford Park during the same time as Festa.)
The SMFFA’s booth had non-stop customers as soon as it open at 10:30 am until it closed at 5:30 pm.
According to Festa coordinator Pat Giosso, we raised $3124.00, which was $500.00 more than 2008’s total. Special thanks to the off-duty SMFFA members that worked this event along with several SMFFA family members (Suzie and Jenna Stanovcak, Amber, Gianna and Sofia Seguine.) Our cooks and servers: Manny Avalos, Jeff Barile, Cadets Brent Tenbruggencate and Richard Woo, Dan Belville, Ray Sorensen, Rich Seguine, Nino Balestrieri, Joe Rupena, Patrick McKinney, Stefanie Diashyn, Danny Sandoval, Andy Martinez and Steve Stanovcak.

Jerry Neves and his band , The Explorers, entertained the citizens with their music just down from SMFFA’s booth.
Thanks to all SMFFA members and their families in making this fundraising event for PARCA so successful and fun!
